Letter from the Current President

To our Esteemed Alumni,

As my time as chapter president draws to an end I would like to look back at the successes of the past year and highlight some of the goals the chapter will attempt to achieve by the end of this semester. During the spring semester of last year I had the great honor of initiating 17 new members into Penn Beta, breaking the 1900 mark on the men initiated into our beloved chapter. Over the rest of the semester, through the summer, and the beginning of this semester I have seen these new gentlemen grow into respectable Phi Psis and am anxious to see what new heights they take Penn Beta. This summer Penn Beta received three awards, the most important being the Accreditation to which we received excellence in 9 out of 11 categories. However, we are already taking great strides to fix the two categories that we failed in. This year we held our second annual volleyball tournament with Kappa Kappa Gamma and raised around $300 for the Reading is Fundamental Foundation, and plan to do another volleyball tournament with Alpha Chi Omega in the spring. Our other philanthropies include participating in Make a Difference Day, which is when all organizations at Allegheny aid in improving the Meadville area, and numerous Service Saturdays where we build wheelchair ramps for the handicapped. My goals for this semester include continuing the outstanding recruitment standard that we established last year by recruiting at least the same number of pledges, improving relations with sororities on campus by having more philanthropy/fundraising events with them, and improving alumni relations by creating more alumni oriented events. I am extremely excited for the upcoming year and the achievements that Penn Beta will obtain and look forward to seeing you on weekend of October 2nd-3rd for Homecoming. If you have any suggestions, inputs, or ideas please contact me at talarip@allegheny.edu.

In the Bond,
Philip Talarico

Myers Award: Cum Laude In addition to winning these two awards, the chapter was also accredited in 9 out of 11 areas.

Volleyball Tournament
On September 12th, Phi Psi worked together with Kappa Kappa Gamma to host our annual volleyball tournament. This year, almost 100 people attended and we raised over $250 for Reading is Fundamental. Reading is Fundamental is an organization that prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most.
